had some fun shooting alison's family. we shot at one of my favorites beaches, cardiff...and i saw a bunch of people surfing that i knew and wanted to catch up with them afterwards to shoot...waves were up, the sun and light was perfect, water was blue, would have been great, but after 15 mins of duck diving and fighting the waves out, i went to shoot and realized that water was seeping(sounds better than gushing) into my water housing that was holding my canon 1dsm2! OUCH! if that was my 5d, it would be done! i love 1d cameras...super solid.
fixed it tonight, waves are still up! maybe shoot tomorrow.

Alison:
Love them Jay! So fun to see what someone else sees through the lens. We had a great time with you and we will have to do the surfing shots another time:) Glad to hear your camera survived. We thought something was up after you came in after a few minutes. Glad to hear your equipment was ok and you were able to fix it.

I've said it before and said it again, if you ever come up the coast to Vancouver BC, gimme a shout. I love your work!!
What are the chances of seeing some behind the scene work? I'm curious how you get such amazingly tack sharp images when your out in the water. Do you have to photoshop water droplets often?

had a fun shoot yesterday, despite the lack of sun, no lack of color! i really like these images and especially liked them as squares. one thing that really stands out to me in these images are the natural feel of the images. emily also had some very cool knitted hats and the blankets that were really colorful and cool. emily also gave me one of her custom made camera straps...emily, please comment on the link to the goods.
now the climbing shot of mick was not without a few cat calls from the other side of the beach... which i think mick seemed to enjoy ;-)

hi all! well, i am neck deep in family shoots! its been a ton of fun to shoot all the wonderful families and i look forward to the ones coming up. just a few updates on the project...
if you have not heard back from me, i promise to follow up with everyone. its been tough to manage it all on my own without a producer or studio manager. but i making great progress and creating some selects and having some fun!
i can say that for as much fun as its been, it has also been very challenging to shoot families the way i want to...and to be honest, i am still dialing in the best way to produce and set up the shoots. more on that at a later post.
thanks to the siddons, mcduff and bever families!
so moving on, i have many shoots scheduled and the conditions in san diego this week, might be rain, so we shall see how things progress. if your just finding this project now and want to be a part of it, and you have not commented yet, feel free to comment here. thanks!! i will be adding some decmeber dates as well, and will be putting some new spins on the shoot concepts. thanks!

hi everyone! had a small mention in this months issue of PDN. i always look forward to the stock issue...find out what people are doing and who else is out there... in an effort to find a second agency beyond aurora, i first signed with jupiter/workbook which has been good, but wanted to keep my options open. i have always been a fan of uppercut images in the stock world and when they expressed some interest, it all fell into place. upper cut has been super easy to work with and look forward to future shoots and submissions.
the article is about who agencies are signing and why...wish that i had this article to read about 3 years ago. it is a pretty interesting read if your interested in this niche of photography and if there is interest enough from this blog readership i would shed some insight on how to get an agency contract.
