this morning i had a shoot with athletic/model remi and wanted to share a few pics. i guess the photo lesson of the day could be light meters! i got mine years ago and have never really stopped using it even when i switched to digital. sure you have that nice little screen on the back but under the speed and pressure of the shoot, sometimes it is difficult to read the lcd. but with the light meter, i know the exposure will be spot on. especially with some of the back light, it really makes exposure much easier.

Hey, that's the track at UCSD! Nice stuff. Since your talking about light and exposures, I'd really like to see a posting on your blog about how you shoot into the sun, with sun right behind you, or purposely overexposing to blow out backgrounds... that kind of thing, your style.

wow! THE robert benson!! ;-) yes, ucsd track has been very good to me for shooting! i guess locations are not like surf spots, so we can mention it. next time i go there, there will 5 people shooting there! i kid i kid, i joke with you...backlite shooting, would love to talk about that...maybe next time i have the op, will post about it!

Great shots! Yeah, couldn't agree more. My light meter's, like, one of the most important tools I own. I started in film so it's second nature to use. And as for that 'nice little screen on the back' of the digital camera, I rarely use it during an actual shoot. Stopping to look can really impede the mood, connectivity, etc. I have to admit the little screen's incredibly helpful (especially in weird light, etc), but when I use a film camera the work flow is vastly different. Part of which I attribute to not stopping to have a look after every shot...maybe your thoughts on this sometime in a future post?

hey dave! there is a level of trust that happens at some point, i think it is your trust in the choices you make on a shoot. would make for a nice blog topic if i can think of how to best communicate the ideas!

Hey Jay! I am really enjoying the underwater housing. Now I just need to find more time to use it! I am still in the learning phases, so I have also been enjoying the tips you have been posting here. You do GREAT work! Quick question, what light meter do you use and would you recommend it or is there another light meter you would recommend? I am looking to purchase a nice one in the near future. I have an old cheap one now and I don't really like it at all.
