I had the pleasure of co-hosting an event with my good friend Lisa Kennedy at Landmark Events. The event was at the very cool Ballpark Loft downtown San Diego. Some of the others involved in the event were One Hope Wines, artist, Mike Newton, 410 Degrees, SoCal Ice, Plush Lounge, Blush Botanicals, Soar Sushi and Xceptional Music.

a few out-takes from the san diego mag shoot.
tips for shooting from a helicopter:
1. don’t eat a big lunch
2. minimize composing images though the viewfinder
3. have a shot list and plan of attack for a flight path
4. dress warm
5. buckle in
6. as you climb, have read the altimeter to you can give the pilot altitude direction when your shooting – most of my shots were 100-500 feet, and now i know just about exactly where to be to communicate it
have fun!
if anyone wants to go on a helicopter shoot, we can share the cost;-)

Nice images and looks like great fun. Approx. how much is splitting the costs?
-
It does look really fun… I’m also interested in the cost. Also, what was the problem with composing through the viewfinder… too sporadic?
-
wow that is such a great perspective! Great captures.
-
These are cool, but I feel dizzy!

Dear Jay,
You are such an inspiration to me. I love your work and your energy. I saw this post and immediately decided to take a helicopter ride over the NYC area. I live in Brooklyn and I wish you lived here so that we could split the cost of the ride. I have been in a helicopter before and I took a flight over the Colorado River which was awesome. That was when I was fresh out of college and I used a disposable camera to capture the shots. I can’t wait to take my baby (d700) up there. Wish me well. Thanks for the inspiration. I am hoping to make this happen very soon.
So I had a few days to fill and why not shoot real estate headshots!! Quick and easy, right around my studio. Anyone need headshots?

Lisa has the best events in San Diego!! So much fun shooting with her and her team. I totally was digging ZIRK UBU as well, love all the Eastern European music, and just circus life, pretty fun!

These look amazing, Jay! She’s so adorable.
Hey Everyone,
Just a fun post from a commercial shoot about 2 months ago, just have not had time to really follow up on it. I was hired to produce a 7 image campaign for my favorite sweetener SPLENDA! I played producer as well as photographer on this job. I would rather just be photographer but the budget was a bit tighter and i need to stretch what they had. years of producing my own images pays off when you need it to…
15 models, an East Hampton modern dwelling, gym rental, tons of props and prop products, a crew of about 10, food, transportation and lots of profoto rental stuff…not so bad but planning it all from 3000 miles a way was a challenge.
Here are 3 of the images produced, the comped one actually has my son playing model, as well as some assigned friends kids as the kid models.
The images are really very simple in concept but in perfection are very particular abut the expressions, the energy, the composition, and the interaction between models and between their products/food. In some instances using FUEL Digital retouching services in NYC to perfect the image on all points.

Great work as always, Jay! I’m a little biased here, but I have to say the image on the left is MY FAVE!
-
Awesome Jay! The images turned out great!
-
I must say the image on the left is my favorite too! Who are those adorable kids?
-
thanks again for having me on that shoot, hope all is going well!
Hi Everyone! This is one of those shoots you have tons of fun shooting. Felt like I was back in high school! Sage Hill is a very nice private high school in Newport Beach that hired me to shoot all their imagery. The shoot is spread out over 2 days and day 2 is this week. For the most part day 1 was school living, and the arts. Day 2 will be classroom shooting other various scenarios.
This post is a little photo heavy but giving the students who I think were eager to see some pics something to check out. If your here visiting from Sage Hill, please leave a comment in the comment section below…see you on Monday!

WOW! So many activities covered, just in one day! I really feel like you captured the spirit and energy of the school, and I’ve never even been there! Love it!
-
Looks like a fun school to attend. Your images really make sage hill feel like a student focused H.S. and the arts program looks amazing. I love the images from day one and can’t wait to see day two!
-
Jay—I LOVE this post…the images are rad–alive. Nice colors and the joy of the kids ALMOST makes me want to go back to HS.
-
These are great. Were they shot for promotional materials or did the school hire you to shoot these for use in the yearbook?
-
Nice images. Our campus is incredibly “friendly” and small enough that nobody ever goes unnoticed. Even so, we all get busy, and it’s interesting to see that a one-day visit by a photographer such as yourself can capture aspects of our students’ on-campus lives that we might not see when they are in our own classroom.
-
These are great! Not what my high school days looked like.
-
I want to go to school there! The images show the life of the school perfectly!
-
Wow, can I sent my future children there please?! So many creative ventures for them to choose from! Wonderful images!
-
The computer lab looks like a lot of fun . . . and the piano pic sings!!!
shot a story for surfer friend Esther Hahn about Steven Newton.

INCREDIBLE!
