its been like 2 weeks since we have seen the sun here in san diego, driving me nuts as a photographer.  funny think is that the news was talking that over the past 6 months, we have had less than an inch of rain.  so no rain or sun...but it finally came out yesterday, it was so freakin nice, i just wanted to shoot all dat, so instead i actually went surfing, and shot a little surfing.

so just for fun...

hi everyone, the other day checked out the GET GONE show at Swiv Tackle.  Swiv Tackle is one part gallery, one part boutique, one part working studio.  Nice to see some creative energy in the area.  The photo exhibit was perfect for the area.  3 photographers all showcasing culture lifestyle and action shots around the theme of boards.  showboards, skateboards and surfboards.

rhino was one of the photographers, a bycle messenger in  the past, we work together in san diego.  we were both bike messengers at one time, now we are photographers.  pretty cool.  Rhino is a staff photographer at thrasher magazine and the images were gritty, editorial and authentic.

cole barash was the snowboard guy.  funny thing was i remember seeing his work in some recent annual of sorts about a campain for Nike.  I chatted with him for a while but wish i knew the work was his when chatting.  i liked the campaign.  nice mix of portrait work in his action as well.

chris burkart was the surf photog.  he recently released a book entitled The California Surf Project.  what can i say, i love shooting in the water, it was fun to see such images in a gallery.  It has inspired me to show more work, in an non commercial format.  chris and i talked for some time about assignments, photo books, and moving the authentic images to a market place, perhaps aurora!

great turnout at Swiv Tackle, check them out.  thanks!

here is some causal shooting in maui.  most is either kihei or paia, just found scenarios.  yes that is a dog on the SUP.  i was digging everyone i found to shoot, pretty fun.  these are all direct right out of the camera, no photoshopping at all, not sure that is good or bad, just trivia ;-)

i have so many images and separate shoots from Hawaii, i am just gonna trickle a few in here and there... here are some super fit and fun Hawaiian chicks doing what they love to do.  coach charlie somewhere off to the side.  Maui is small enough that i would shoot someone that morning and there was a good chance i might run into them later that day... kinda dig that small town feel.

shot for fun, shot for spirit, shot for lifestyle.

jay says: well, you get the shot anyway you can, right? one of the shots i am hanging on the side of the boat dragging half in and half out. (05.29.09 @ 12:15 PM)
Christan Parreira says: I agree with Jen.....what the heck do you look like taking these photos; in my mind you are (in the first photo) barely holding on with your feet standing up while leaning waaaaay over almost tipping everyone out of the boat. Great photos, I love your style! (05.29.09 @ 10:15 AM)
Jen Ulasiewicz says: Wow these are just amazing! You know what I would really be interested in seeing? Some photos of you taking photos because I have to wonder about how you got some of these shots. Awesome! :) (05.28.09 @ 07:01 AM)

So i just returned from a trip shooting in Maui for a few days and the very cool people at pac safe sent me their duffel bag that turns into a camera bag.  well, i have about 15 camera bags so i really did not need another one, but the cool thing about this bag is that it locks up your gear in the bag and you can lock it to a fixed object.  well, if it worked, this would be idea, because when i am traveling for photography, i am always putting my equipment into jeopardy by leaving it in the room, in the car or even worse, leaving it on the beach while i go shoot snorkeling on the reef or surfing or whatever!

Pacsafe's motto is... "when your gear is secure, you can do more" and this was very true on my Hawaii trip.  a piece of mind allowed me to shoot more and worry less...photos to post soon!

Other very nice features of the bag:
1.  a camera insert that allows for all your gear to fit and be protected.  I carried 2 1dsms bodies, 4 lenses AND my water housing and ports in this bag, plus shooting books and model release books
2.  the bag has handles, a shoulder strap and backpack straps - i thought the back packs straps were gonna be lame, i used them almost the entire trip.
3.  top pocket for the phone and wallet
4.  wire mesh and locking cable that fit around and locked up with no problem.

Here is a quick shot of the bag locked up before heading into the water.

Paul says: Nice shot. I really need to get one of their bags or safes for our next trip. I remember being so paranoid about my cameras, laptop, and PDA getting stolen on our last international trip. Luckily nothing happened, but the peace of mind would be great. (10.19.09 @ 11:48 AM)

lets face it, lisa just kicks ass.  i did get my lisa share this weekend, 2 shoots with landmark, still not enough.  can't believe my light stand was set up next to a $500,000.00 Rolls.  Pretty fun event.
