hi all,

i do a lot of traveling...and many time i travel and stay in places that are a bit less than safe for all my equiptment to be left behind.  This last trip to akumal mexico, i got though about half of the stay before i releaized my hotel door lock was not working.  so basically i was leaving tons of very expensive equiptment in an unlocked door...anywhere this is not a good idea.

so on my return i started to look for a locking devide that would protect my camera, lenses, computers, waterhousings and other goodies i like to travel with when i out and about.  I found the PacSafe 140 which is basically a large mesh bag that you can put your valuables in and lock it in the room pretty safe.  I am not saying that you could get it if you really wanted and had the time to do it, but it certainly puts me at ease in thinking that most theft would be very opportunitic and fast.  this product would put a hault to that loss.

i got my pacsafe bag at corporate travel saftey... for about $75.  I can fit my suitcase, camera bag and laptop all in the bag and lock it to the bed frame.  pretty cool

samm says: Oh these are good! I used one while traveling through thailand, china and india. I am sure it saved my stuff being swipped on numerous occasions! Though it sucks when you have it all finally locked it in place, and then realize your left something you need in there.. (01.08.09 @ 04:37 AM)

hi everyone!

just had to fly out of LAX today and i am always wanting to shoot airports when i am in them but never bother to get the camera out...so today i decided to grab a few images.... love the florescent light, the spaces and the color... just thought i would share...

aside from making images in airports, i have to say i just love the airport, all airports...such a fun place to people watch, doors to new worlds and the one place i seem to spend a lot of time...next to the studio or home.  airports also seem to be some of the most productive time editing... a 2 hour layover is way more productive than 2 hours in the studio!

TANORROD says: Just fouind you today!!! Love your work, you have a talented eye! The only airport I think I can handle being stuck in is Vegas.... memories!! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. (04.06.10 @ 01:10 PM)
Katie says: Love your blog/pictures. Found you not all that long ago. I love your airport photos. Had to laugh when I saw the sink pictures though -- I can only imagine the looks you got when you whipped out a camera in the restroom! Now THAT would have been a good shot. (01.08.09 @ 08:15 PM)
Jonathan says: I LOVE AIRPORTS TOO. No one ever understands me when I tell them that either. One of my favorite parts of any vacation is the airport, as long as there is no 24 hour delays ahaha. Love your photos so much by the way. One of the best I've seen. Ill keep checkin your blog out. Keep it up. (01.08.09 @ 02:28 PM)

Delphine says: Cool pics as usual! The only bad things about airport is getting in the plane... and staying in it for a while! I'm in New Zealand and it takes AGES to go anywhere - even Australia is 4 hours away... nevermind ;) (01.07.09 @ 10:43 PM)

hi everyone,

i find myself doing more commercial work and many times not actually imagery that i want to hang in the house...but recently have been really inspired by the fantastic use of images showcased in domino magazine.  it seems like almost every issue really show a creative way a featured person is displaying their personal snapshots, fine art photography or captured moments.  reminds me that images should be seen and get creative in your presentations.  there are no rules and if there were, domino shows that they are just meant to be broken.  so maybe my new years resolution is to show more photos in the house and studio;-)

below is actual a shot of a spread of domino editor rita konig fantastic use of polaroids over the mantel.

rebeka says: You're so right. I've loved this mantle ever since I saw it. Domino is always a source of inspiration. Did you see Rita's cocktail party. Super laid back and cool. And we got a second peek at her mantle at christmastime. (12.27.08 @ 08:49 AM)
Kim says: I love the polaroid look. Very captivating. (12.23.08 @ 08:51 AM)
Greer Rivera says: I'm gonna have to do this for sure! (12.22.08 @ 07:03 PM)
Kris Leigh says: I find myself looking through home decorator magazines for this very same reason, lol! Instead of looking at the furniture or the way popular wall colour, I'm looking at the images on the wall's/shelves and how they're displayed :-) I would never have thought of displaying photo's like this but it definitely works really well as a feature wall for something different :-) (12.19.08 @ 03:20 PM)
heather says: love the idea and it reminds me I need a battery for my land camera. thanks! again and again. (12.18.08 @ 10:19 AM)
erin says: Amen! I am constantly flipping through that mag getting display ideas. The Drew Barrymore issue is great, she has a fantastic inspiration wall of images in her office. (12.18.08 @ 08:17 AM)

every month i get my royalty reports on my stock catalog, and when reviewing i get a bit excited about how some of them are performing.  so i thought i would mention an image every now and then and try to give a little bit of insight on how i produced the shot.  one image that is doing well recently is this sunset shot of two surfers.  i have plenty of great action shots from surfing sessions but many times the images that do well are the landscapes, the portraits, the culture or lifestyle of the sport.  the shot is an example of making the most of the time when i am shooting.  back lite surfing shots would have ended about 30 minutes before this shot was taken, but i thought i would wait it out a bit to get this frame and about 3 others that are in circulation.  i am not always a patient photographer, but the 30 minutes of waiting was well worth it!

jay says: hey mark - i rarley have any port water on my shots, mainly cause the port is treated before i go out and shoot and i fstop is also pretty narrow in depth of field, so if there is soemthing on there, you just dont see it. but in the past any water on the port has never stopped me from using an image, just becomes one of those imperfections you learn to love. (12.23.08 @ 10:53 AM)
Mark says: So diggin this shot! Great vibe. How do you keep your housing port so perfectly free of water drops Jay? (12.23.08 @ 08:40 AM)
Michael says: Awesome image Jay. It's absolutely perfect with such stunning clarity and sharpness. Great job! (12.18.08 @ 04:55 PM)
Kate in OH says: This is awesome. I don't know anything about sharks but the other comments have me leary to even think of waiting until sunset for an image. good thing I live in OHIO! lol (12.18.08 @ 05:56 AM)

hailey says: fantastic... just found your blog - love it! beautiful work! (12.16.08 @ 11:39 PM)
Tina Cockburn says: Awesome capture! If you're still looking for families for your project, I'd love to be considered. As a photographer, I have no excuse that the last photo of the five of us was nearly two years ago. (12.16.08 @ 11:24 PM)

hi everyone!  just cleaning out some equipment.  both of these lenses have served me well, just not shooting them as much right now.

24-70 f2.8 - $900.  shipped with insurance/$875 pick up in studio
45ts - f2.8 - $925 shipped with insurance/$900 pick up in studio

both are clean, work perfectly.  have some lens hood scratches from shooting, but otherwise are in great shape.  the 24-70 has a very small indent in the structure, never noticed until i listed this to sell, oherwise in perfect shape and does not seem to get in the way.

will take a credit card if needed, can ship in the us at that price.

jay says: ha, well, i guess i dont want to sell them that bad. go buy them at B and H! ;-) (12.18.08 @ 02:27 PM)
Anonymous says: C'mon, drop the price 300-400 per lens and it may be worth it. If not you can pick up the TS brand new on B&H for 1100.00 and the 24/70 for around 1200 and change. And if they have them used (which they often do) you get a short term warranty and probably a better price. (12.18.08 @ 02:14 PM)
